Assam State Information, History, Symbols

Assam is a state in northeastern India known for its wildlife, archeological sites and tea plantations.

In the west, Guwahati, Assam’s largest city, features silk bazaars and the hilltop Kamakhya Temple.

The state capital, Dispur, is a suburb of Guwahati. The ancient pilgrimage site of Hajo and Madan Kamdev, the ruins of a temple complex, lie nearby.

Assam Animal :

                                    One horned rhinoceros

The Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis), also called the greater one-horned rhinoceros and great Indian rhinoceros, is a rhinoceros native to the Indian subcontinent.

Assam Bird :

                                          White-winged Wood Duck

The white-winged duck or white-winged wood duck (Asarcornis scutulata) is a large species of duck, formerly placed in the genus Cairina and allied with the dabbling ducks.

Assam Flower :

                                                         Rhynchostylis retusa

Rhynchostylis retusa (also called foxtail orchid) is an exotic blooming orchid, belonging to the Vanda alliance. The inflorescence is a pendant raceme, consisting of more than 100 pink-spotted white flowers.

Assam Tree :

                                             Dipterocarpus macrocarpus

Dipterocarpus macrocarpus is a common medium hardwood tree in South-East Asia and India. It is the state tree of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, India. In Assam it is locally known as Hollong tree.
